3/17/12 Update:

Big Red continues to impress us! We have been so busy that we haven’t been able to keep him working consistently, yet he is a perfect boy every time anyway. He got some new shoes last week. Also, we decided to try and clip him and the silly boy literally fell asleep he was so relaxed. He looked like he was sedated! It was hilarious. He has been enjoying being turned out with his love, Esperanza, now that she can play since Jaime gave her new “feet.” He is definitely a great horse and we enjoy having him here! It will be sad to see him go, but he is going to make someone a great horse.

2/6/12 Update:

Big Red is gaining weight and looking exceptionally handsome these days. He is one of the favorites on the ranch.

We are pleased to announce that he has an adoption interest: Monica Noblin of Bear Valley. I will be working with the two of them for the next month or so to see if they are a match. He has already captured her heart and she already has a new name for him that I will let her share, if it all works out. I love it!

Wish them luck, and wish us good weather!

1/26/12 Update:

Big Red has enjoyed his blanket and shelter. He has the best personality! He is kind of dog-like and silly. I would like to get him a stall ball because I am sure he would play with it. He is continuing to gain weight and we are looking forward to working him the next couple of weeks as things dry out. I can generally count on him to make me laugh and he keeps Hank Jr. from being bored by playing with him most of the day.

1/16/12 Update: Big Red is a VERY good boy. I can tell he has put some weight on in this lst week too. He has so much personality. If he wasn’t so big, I think he’d want to get on your lap. He was perfect for the farrier. We saddled and bridled him this week. We will be doing some round pen work as I can tell he hasn’t worn a bridle for a while, but I am sure he is broke. He was “all over” Pat, Eric, nd Kristi this weekend and they lavished him with attention. The look in his eye is so different than just a week ago. The life and spirit in him are coming back. Horses have an amazing ability to do that….and I am so blessed to be able to experience witnessing this transformation.

Big Red is a 17-year-old chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. His owner was prosecuted for felony animal abuse. Red was at the Bakersfield Animal Shelter since June of 2011 and when seized, was about 300 lbs. lighter than he is now. He could still use a couple hundred more pounds as he is 17.2 hands. He spent the first couple of weeks at BVH. He has had recent dental work, as well as being up to date on vaccines and deworming.

He is as sweet as he is Big. We will be putting a saddle on him soon. He loaded and trailered great. He is sound with a lot of good years still ahead of him. I wonder if he ever jumped? Wish he could talk!

Hi again…how is Big Red doing???Are his feet doing better? I would so love to trailer my mare up to you and I am more than willing to provide her feed of course. I give her a bale and a half per week and other supplements. What day is good for you? I have waited because I see how busy you are. Sherry.
