Marley’s High Voltage AKA Volt
3/17/12 Update:
Volt is so much fun! He comes running to his gate now when he sees me coming with his halter! We have someone that is going to donate a jog cart and I will start driving him once I can focus some attention his way after Mea Ola foals. He does get out every day, even if it’s just for a walk or a lounge. He is getting a shiny coat and will stand all day to be groomed. He was a great model for his photo shoot too! He has earned enough trust that everyone here at the ranch can handle him now. No one has had one single problem with him. Way to go Volt!

Volt is one of our newest rescues. He was found tied to someone’s fence with a hay string! Those people called animal control and off he went.
He had to be boarded at BVH because he is a stallion and animal control does not have the facility or personnel to deal with a stallion. Not only is he a stud, but a cryptorchid, which means he has a retained testicle. This castration surgery must be done at a surgical facility and will cost about $1500.00. For a combination of these reasons, he would have been euthanized, as it is not every day that someone would be willing to take all of this on.
He also had feet about 4 inches too long–horrible. He has some arthritis in his hocks, but it doesn’t seem to bother him much.
Before and after:
I decided to call him Marley’s High Voltage. He is an American Saddlebred, and was once a show horse. His tail has been cut and there is evidence of him being in a tail set at one time. His name fits him: he is charged up all of the time. He is a show-off and a ham for the camera!
For a stallion, he is well mannered. In just one week, he has had his feet done, been blanketed, and worked in long lines, with the entire set up. I have started working him with a flag, over obstacles and just trying to keep his mind busy. At first it took me a few minutes to catch him. Now he comes and puts his head in his halter. I believe he is broke to drive and ride but we will find out after he is gelded. I will be contacting different hospitals this week.
